The village of Santa Elena produces very little light pollution at night, and there are no urban centers anywhere near here. This is a perfect place to visit during meteor showers or to simply marvel at the vast number of stars in the Milky Way. The best viewing is on cloudless moonless nights. You can imagine what it must have been like to have been an ancient Maya astronomer. We suggest lying down in the lounge chairs by the pool after dark.
